Source: Crawfordsville Review Thursday April 27, 1916

Henry DAVIES (sic - headline says DAVIS) died at his home 717 E. Main yesterday morning at 10. Mr. Davies had been ill a year and during the last few days his condition had been such that his death was expected at almost any hour. The deceased was 70 years old and had been a resident of this city for about 7 years. Before coming here he was engaged in the clothing business in VanWert, Ohio. The body will be taken to the old home for burial Saturday morning. Before coming to this city 7 years ago Mr. Davies retired from active business. Since he was first attacked with the fatal malady Mr. Davies has made a valiant fight but his advanced years made it an uneven struggle and for some time his friends and relatives have known the end was near. The funeral will be from the home at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon and services will be in charge of Rev. ES Scott of the Presbyterian Church at Winona, Ind. The body will be taken to the former home at VanWert, Ohio Sat morning where the services will be in charge of the Ivanhoe Lodge, Knight Templars of that city of which the deceased was Past Eminent Commander. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Mattie Davies to whom he was married in Muncie Ind 1872. NO children were born to this union. There is also one sister Mrs. May Evans of Emporia, KS still living. Since coming to this city a few years ago Mr. Davies has made many friends. He was respected and loved by all who knew him and the community has suffered a great loss by his death. The widow requests no flowers be sent. - kbz
