John Raymond DAVENPORT, son of Mark and Mary Davenport was born in Monroe County, Indiana Aug 6, 1897. There he lived with his father's family until 1906 when they removed to their present home near Linden, where he died Friday morning, 96 ? Throughout his life Raymond was never physically strong. He attended school until he reached the 7th year when he was taken out on account of his poor condition of health. In all his life in school he won the respect and interest of his teachers. It seemed that his poor health influenced him to think of the serious side of life. He has, even in his short years, set an unusual example of Christian life, having had no bad habits whatever and on May 23, 1895 Raymond joined the Methodist Church at Linden. On one occasion during a revival he said he wanted to go forward but did not feel physically strong enough. He was a faithful attendant of his Sunday school class when he was able. Raymond bore his sickness most patiently never asking anyone to do anything for him. Even to the last he was hopeful of being able to work this summer and talked of his plans. When the last moments came he hardly knew that death was on him and passed away quickly and peacefully. He leave smother, father, Mary and Mark Davenport, four brothers, Wayne, Frank, Howard and Max and one sister Olive all at home. - kbz
