Dallas - John L.

John L. Dallas, of New Market, died Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. He was born at Waynesburg, West Virginia May 23, 1835. He learned the saddlers trade when a boy and was working at his trade in Columbus, O in ’62 when he enlisted and went to the front at his country’s call. He served three years and six months in Company A, 113th Ohio volunteer infantry under Sherman and was in seven hard fought battles as well as the memorable march to the sea. At the close of the war he returned to his trade at which he continued till failing health compelled him to quit work several months ago. He was a man of sterling worth and integrity. He claimed the distinction of being second cousin to George M. Dallas, Vice president of the United States during the administration of James K. Polk. Mr. Dallas was married in 1880 to Mrs. Eliza A. Roberts, daughter of George M. Leamon of this city. His death was caused by kidney troubles. The funeral will occur at New Market tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock.
