Seth Emery Cuppy, son of John and Mahala Lloyd Cuppy was born at Shelburn, April 28, 1844. Of 10 children, four brothers and five sisters, there remains but one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Harris of Brazil. Early in life Mr. Cuppy became a member of "Little Flock" Baptist Church near Shelburn a church that has had a great history and is active today. He was married to Mary Pinkston of Graysville Feb 12, 1863. Mrs. Cuppy's death occured June 1, 1923. To them were given two children: Edgar A. who died April 18th, 1917, and Minnie M, the wife of Bert S. Kritz of this city. Mr. Cuppy was one of the few surviving veterans of the Civil War, enlisting at the beginning of the war in Co. E, 43rd Regiment of Indiana Vols. Illness kept him from serving to the end of the war and from active service at the front, but we are as greatly indebted to him today as if he had fallen on the battlefield. He moved to Waveland in 1886, where he engaged in business for a number of years, retiring in 1915. He was one of the oldest members of the Odd Fellows Lodge. After an illness of 7 weeks, Mr. Cuppy passed away June 20th being 82 years, 1 month and 22 days. He leaves one sister, one daughter, and one granddaughter, Mary Herberta Kritz. Fun. serv. at the home on Tues afternoon were in charge of Rev. J.B. Johnson. Burial at Maple Ridge. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. Elizabeth Harris, Rice and Ed Turner of Brazil; Mrs. Margaret Van Petten and Miss Gretchen of Anderson; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Burford, Mrs. Will Norcross and Miss Mary Page of Terre Haute; Mr. and Mrs. Levi Bardsley, Mr. and Mrs. Shaker and daughter and Mrs. Mollie Stuck of Shelburn; Bob Billman of Sullivan; Mrs. Mollie Brown and Hezzie Burk, Graysville, Ind and William Thompson and his family of Prairietown, Ill. - kbz
