Lt. Colonel William Paul Cummings (Ret) of Ladoga died Tuesday afternoon in Marquette Health Center at Indianapolis. He was 89. He graduated from Ladoga High School and attended Purdue University, where he studied aeronautical engineering. He was drafted into the Air Force where he became a pilot serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired after 28 years of service. He then became a pilot for Britt Airlines. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Crawfordsville, 40 & 8 at Crawfordsville, V.F.W. at Roachdale and a member of the 485th Bomb Association. He was born Oct. 22, 1921, at Birdseye, to Adrian and Ona Audrey Jones Cummings. He married Betty L. Britts on May 16, 1942, at Ladoga. She died Nov. 9, 2007. Survivors include: sons, David Cummings of Crawfordsville and Phillip (Michele) Cummings of Brownsburg; brother, Prentice Cummings of Rensselaer; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Grandson Peter Cummings and brother Allen Ray Cummings also are deceased. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Ladoga Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Leonard officiating. Military honors will be performed by Crawfordsville American Legion and Roachdale V.F.W. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 203 N.
