Mrs. JW Cumberland entered into rest this morning at 11 o’clock. Margaret Speed was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, July 11th 1825 and came with her father the late John Speed to Crawfordsville in 1834. She married JW Cumberland Jan 30, 1849 and he with four children survive her. The children are: Mrs. AC Jennison; Mrs. AO Penniman; Frank S. and Lew W. Her life, more than usual was one of sickness and suffering, but was full to overflowing with gentleness, patience, helpfulness and love to all about her. Many beyond the circle of her family will miss the beauty and fragrance of her character made perfect through suffering. Funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday – transcribed by kbz

The funeral of Mrs. JW Cumberland occurred on Thursday from the residence on Thursday from the residence of the family on Lafayette avenue, conducted by Dr. Jos. F. Tuttle. A large concourse of friends attended and followed the remains to their last resting place at Oak Hill cemetery. The pall bearers were TD Brown, Charles Harding, Fred Manson, JR Robinson, Wm. Nicholson and THB McCain. The honorary pall bearers were Ben T. Ristine, Alexander Thompson, Gen MC Manson and Major L. A. Foote. - kbz

She married JW Cumberland Jan 30, 1849 and he with their four children survive her. The children are: Mrs. AC Jennison; Mrs. AO Penniman; Frank S. Cumberland and Lew W. Cumberland.
