JAMES RICHARD CRUTCHFIELD

Another of our old citizens passed away early on Saturday morning when James CRUTCHFIELD died at his home east of town. His death was not unexpected as he has been in poor health for 10 years and critically ill for several weeks. Funeral services at the Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at three were in charge of Rev. Lawrence Green, the body lying in state for an hour previously. A quartet, Mrs. CB Dooley; Mrs. Oris REITER; Mrs. Elby EMMERT and Mrs. OG SWANAY sang. The pall bearers were Paul BARCUS; Homer ROBISON; Charles and Ira SHARP. The flowers were carried by Mrs. Owen Dooley; Mrs. Edgar Pitts; Mrs. Guy Durham and Miss Pearl Gamble. Burial in Maple Ridge cemetery. In the early morning hour of July 8, death's angel came and carried away a father and a brother. In the language of his children, Dear Daddy is gone, but near to be forgotten. James Richard Crutchfield was born near Waveland, May 23, 1854 being the second child of a family of 7 children born to John and Elizabeth Crutchfield, said John Crutchfield being a very active worker in the Church at the time of the erection of the present building. Mr. Crutchfield received his early education in the rural school, finishing in the Waveland Academy. He was married to Martha E. Spencer of near Portland Mills on Feb 12, 1878. to this union one son was born, Harry Crutchfield, who survives. For 46 years this union lasted terminating in the death of the wife 9 years ago. Mr. Crutchfield was a kind husband, a loving father, wishing everyone well and always ready to speak a kind word for the Master. He was baptized in infancy and later with his son, united with the Waveland Methodist Episcopal Church under the ministry of Rev. Mr. Heshey. To mourn his going are the son and wife, two grandchildren, Forest and Shirley and a host of relatives and friends. Among those present from a distance were Mr. & Mrs. Earl Spencer and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur McGaughey of Crawfordsville; Mr. & Mrs. Dale Spencer of Greenfield; Mr. & Mrs. Marion Martin; Mrs. Amna Carver and Mrs. Bert Whitesell of Rockville; Mr. & Mrs. Guy Marshall and Mr. & Mrs. Harry Beeson of Marshall; Mr. & Mrs. AB McClain of Ladoga; Mr. & Mrs. Turner Harbison; Mr. & Mrs. George Spencer; Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Grimes; Mr. & Mrs. Walter McGaughey and Romulus Boyd of Russellville; Floyd Yeager of Greencastle; Mr. & Mrs. Albert Spencer and James K.
