Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 22 July 1898
Special to the Journal. Jamestown, July 20—Yesterday afternoon Frederick Cruff, a well to do farmer living east of here, hanged himself in his barn. He was 51 years old and leaves a wife and two children, both grown. He had been in poor health for some time and was subject to fits of despondency, in which he had threatened to commit suicide. Yesterday afternoon he left the house without telling anyone where he was going. When he did not come home a search was instituted and this morning about daylight his body was found hanging to a beam in the loft of his barn. -s
