Hillsboro -- John W. Crosby, 61, Rt. 1, Hillsboro, was found dead Friday at his residence. He had been in failing health for about one year. Mr. Crosby was a retired farmer and postal clerk and former operator of New Richmond Farm Supply and Elevator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Crosby was a member of the American Legion Post of Darlington, Moose Lodge of Crawfordsville and Alamo Masonic Lodge and was a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles of Crawfordsville. He was born July 28, 1917, at Fairland in Shelby County, a son of William and Pluma Moore Crosby. On Feb 18, 1946, he was married at Ames, Iowa to the former Isabelle Wheelock, who survives. Mr. Crosby was a resident of Crawfordsville before moving to Hillsboro 11 years ago. Other survivors are two sons, Dr. W. Michael Crosby of Indianapolis and Dennis Crosby of Tulsa, Okla,; a daughter, Diane Orr of Crawfordsville; his mother, Mrs. Pluma Ray of Crawfordsville; two brothers, William Crosby of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Edmond Crosby of Wildomar, Calif.; Two sisters, Mrs. Velma Stum of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Frances Pipes of Jamestown; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Powers Funeral Home at Crawfordsville with Rev. David Clifford officiating. Masonic services will be at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery with American Legion graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-9 p.m. Sunday. - thanks to Jim Z
