Lake City (Minn.) Republican: The people were shocked on Tuesday morning to learn that Theodore Crane had passed away, as but few knew that his sickness had taken a serious turn, and it was generally expected that he would be back attending to business in a day or two. He was first taken sick on Monday, Jan. 15, of malarial fever, and had become convalescent from that illness, when, on last Sunday evening he was taken with a chill, followed by a stupor, which gradually increased to profound unconsciousness, from which all efforts to arouse him were unavailing. He lingered in this state until about 6:30 o’clock Tuesday morning, when he quietly breathed his last.

Theodore Ira Crane was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., in August, 1848, and was therefore past 51 years of age. In the spring of 1865, with his father, two brothers, and four sisters, he removed to Lake City, where he and his brothers attended the public schools, completing the course of study as it then existed. After finishing school he filled various positions as clerk until 1872, when he formed a partnership with his brother, Charles, and opened a jewelry store, in which business he has since been continually engaged.

January 8, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Workman, and to this union was born one daughter, Miss Frances, who resides with her mother.

Mr. Crane was quiet in disposition and unassuming in manner, but all who were acquainted with him were impressed with his sterling worth and strict integrity. To know him the better was to love him the more, and the vacancy caused by his demise will long be felt in the business and social circles of the city.

Besides a widow and only daughter, deceased is survived by his two brothers, Charles E., of this city, and Edward, of Granite Falls, Minn., and four sisters, Mrs. Julia Kellogg of Alameda, Cal., Mrs. Sadie Merrill of San Monaca, Cal., Mrs. A. P. Watson and Mrs. Mollie Crawford, of Crawfordsville, Ind.
