THEODORE CRAIG

Theodore Craig, who for a time made his home here with Mr. and Mrs. John Pickard died in the Soldier's Home in Danville Ill Sunday evening. MA West drove over on Monday and brought the body here. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church on Wednesday morning in charge of Rev. JB Johnson. Burial in the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Craig was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in Co I 1st Michigan Light Artillery until his discharge at Detroit June 14, 1865. He had two sons who lost their lives in the Spanish-American War. He had no near relatives. He came to Waveland to spend his last days because being almost blind, he could get about better in a small pace than in a city. he was an interseting man to talk to as he had varied experiences. The following additional facts were gleaned from his papers he was born in Columbia Co PA Feb 25, 1843. He was a mechanic by trade. He joined the Christian Church in Trenton MO. His wife is buried in Kansas City Mo. He enlisted in the army at Brunson Michigan Aug 18, 1862 as a corporal and served until discharged as noted above. He came to Waveland in September last year.  -- kbz
