Mrs. Clara Crowder, 96, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug 29 1961, at the home of a son, Don Irvin, in Wingate, where she had made her home the past 15 years. She had been ill a week. She formerly resided near Waynetown. She was born Oct 27 1864, near Waveland, a daughter of Robert and Mary Groves Barton. She was married in 1885 to Hugh Irvin, who preceded her in death in 1900. She was married in 1925 to John F. (Samuel) Crowder, who preceded her in death in 1947. Mrs. Crowder was a member of the Wingate Christian church and the Wingate OES. Surviving are four sons, W. L. Irvin of Long Beach, Calif., Ben Irvin of Darlington and Don and Hubert of Wingate; two step sons, Wiley Crowder of Waynetown and Grover Crowder of Hillsboro; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and stepson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Servies Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Nesbit and the Rev. John Landon officiating. Burial was in Newtown Cemetery.

Wingate - Clara F. Irvin Crowder, 96, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wingate at the home of a son, Don Irvin, with whom she had made her home for 15 years. She had been ill for a week. She was born Oct. 27, 1864, to Robert and Mary Groves Barton near Waveland. In 1885 she was married to Hugh Irvin, who died in 1900. John S. Crowder, to whom she was married in 1925, died in 1947. Mrs. Crowder was a member of the Wingate Christian Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by four sons, W.L. Irvin of Long Beach, Calif., Ben Irvin of Darlington, and Don and Hubert Irvin of Wingate; two stepsons, Wiley Crowder of Waynetown and Grover Crowder of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a stepson. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Carl Nesbett will be assisted by Rev. John Landon in conducting the services. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery.
