Samuel Walker Cowan, a well known citizen, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home in Highland from a complication of troubles induced by grip. He was 66 years of age and a soldier in the Civil war being a member of Co. B 72nd Ind Volunteers. He leaves a wife and two grown daughters to mourn his loss. The funeral was conducted at the family residence at 10 a.m. Tuesday. - typed by kbz

Samuel Walker Cowan, aged 66 years, died in the afternoon at 4;15 o'clock at his home in Highland. he has been quite ill for some days with grip and heart trouble and his demise was not unexpected. The funeral took place from the residence last Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. The deceased was one of the best known citizens of Crawofrdsville, where he had been a laborer for many years. During the war he made an excellent record as a soldier in Company B, 72nd Indiana volunteers. – thanks to Kim H
