Waynetown - George Allen Cowan, 90-year-old retired farmer, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday at his home hour miles south of New Richmond in the Liberty Chapel community. He suffered a stroke Sunday. Mr. Cowan was born Dec. 8, 1868 in the same house in which he died and had lived there his entire life. He was the son of David R. and Maranda Williams Cowan. He was married in 1898, in Crawfordsville, to Grace Vanscoyoc. She died in 1916. He is survived by two sons, Harry of Fortville and Elmer (Pete) Cowan of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Mrs. Lelia Jones of San Francisco, Mrs. Nora VanScoyoc and Mrs. Emma Proctor, both of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Widener of Coldwater, Mich.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Cowan. Funeral rites are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Chapel Church with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown after 4 p.m. Thursday. - kbz
