Crawfordsville, Ind. - Mrs. Essie V. Cowan died Feb. 28 in the Westbrook Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, where she had been a patient since last August. She was born near Liberty Chapel, June 2, 1889, the daughter of A. D. and Ella Breaks Snyder. She was twice married, to Roy D. Vestal, who died in 1937, then to Scott D. Cowan, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Booher of near Crawfordsville and Rebecca Cowan of Lebanon; two sons, Bryan O. Cowan of near Wingate and Marion Cowan of Crawfordsville, Route 6; one half sister, Mrs. Virginia Alden of Honolulu; 11 grandchildren and one niece. Services were conducted at the Bright Funeral Home on March 3, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville. The deceased was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Social and Educational Department Alumnae Association and had served several years as social and educational leader of the North Union Township Farm Bureau. Her husband has been an active worker in the county Farm Bureau. - kbz

Mrs. Essie V. Cowan, 68, died Friday at 3:20 p.m. at the Westbrook Nursing Home, here, where she had been a patient since last Aug. 7. She had been ill since January 1955. Born June 2, 1889 in Montgomery county near Liberty Chapel, she was the daughter of A. D. Snyder and Ellia Breaks Snyder. She was twice married, first to Roy D. Vestal who died in 1937 and then to L. Scott Cowan April 25, 1943, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Booher of Crawfordsville and Miss Rebecca Cowan of Lebanon; two sons, Bryon O. Cowan of Wingate and Marion Cowan of Crawfordsville; half-sister, Mrs. Virginia Alden of Honolulu; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a niece. She was preceded in death by a brother and an aunt. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bright Funeral Home with Rev. C. R. Earle and Rev. Donald Wade officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. - - Funeral services for Mrs. Essie V. Cowan were held Monday afternoon at the Bright Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Wade, pastor of Liberty Methodist Church, and Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiated. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with the floral tributes were grandsons. They were William Cowan, Donald Cowan, Steven Cowan, Larry Campbell, Eddie Campbell and Johnnie Campbell. Requested organ selections played were "Under His Wings", "Beyond The Sunset" and "Going Home." Curtis E. Bright was at the organ. Burial was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Cowan, age 68, died Friday at the Westbrook Nursing Home, where she had been a patient since August. - kbz
