Elmer Lee (Pete) Cowan, 58, of Rt 4, Crawfordsville, died Saturday night at his home. He was born March 10, 1902, south of New Richmond, a son of George A. and Grace M. Vanscoyoc Cowan. Mr. Cowan, a building contractor was a member of the EUB Church and American Legion here. He served in the US Army during WWII. Survivors include two sons, Max A. Cowan of Lebanon and George F. Cowan of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Don Houston of Lebanon; a brother, Harry Cowan of Fortville; 3 sisters, Mrs. Webb Jones of San Francisco; Mrs. Lester Proctor of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Loyal VanScoyoc of Crawfordsville and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral rites will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Chapel Church with Rev. Carlyle Scott in charge. Interment will be in Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
