Mrs. Edythe Carolyn Courtney, 67 of 1213 N Ruston died at 4:45 a.m. today in Regina Pacis Nursing Home. She had been ill since July.  Mrs. Courtney was the wife of Lt. Col. Lyle V. Courtney retired Army officer and former science teacher at Bosse HS from 1921-1946.  Mrs. Courtney was a native of Huntingburg.  She had attended the old Evansville HS and graduated from Huntingburg HS then attended Mrs. Blaker’s School for Teacher Training in Indianapolis. She formerly had taught in Tell City schools and at Brook Ind and ending her teaching career about 1921.  Following Mr. Courtney’s retirement at Bosse in 1946 they had gone to Richmond to live, returning to Evansville in 1957. Mrs. Courtney was a member of First Christian Church and the Opti-Mrs. and Three Arts clubs here.  Surviving besides her husband are daughters, Mrs. George Rode, who is home economics teacher at North HS here, Mrs. Jerry Bump, Neenah, Wis; Mrs. Larry J. Acker, Atlanta, GA and Mrs. William Stewart, Orleans, Ind and 13 grandchildren. The body will be in Kriekhaus-Sansom Funeral Home after 7:30 p.m. today. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Society.
