Carlos C. Copas, 88, retired farmer and saw mill operator, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday at the Bowles Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there since 1962. Copas was born June 3, 1878, the son of Dow and Mary Copas in Gamaliel, Ky. He was married to Attie Deckard in Kentucky in 1905. Surviving are the widow of Crawfordsville; four sons, Raymond and Adolphus of Crawfordsville, Reed of San Antonio, Tex., and Creed of Ft. Riley, Kan.; five daughters, Mrs. Tommy Davis, Mrs. Ples Brown and Mrs. John Destefano, all of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Raymond Long of Indianapolis and Mrs. Bob VonTress of Greencastle; two brothers, Jess of Mt. Herman, Ky., and Wert of Grovel, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Copas of Arthur, Ill.; 31 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, five brothers and a sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Powers Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2 p.m. Friday.
