Mrs. Rosa Alice Cooper, 81, a life-long resident of the Mellott community died at her home there at 4:25 p.m.. Sunday Nov 11. She had been in failing health for several weeks and seriously ill the past week with a heart ailment. Mrs. Cooper was born Jan 9, 1870 on a farm southwest of Mellott, the daughter of James A. and Louisa Ray McAlister. She was married to Charles M. Cooper on July 27, 1890 and they quietly celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary at their home last July. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were the parents of 16 children of whom 11 survive, 9 sons and 2 daughters. She was recently honored at the annual homecoming of the Congregational-Christian Church in Mellott as the oldest member of the congregation. Surviving besides the husband are the following sons: Homer and Fern of Mellott; Chester, Leva and Floyd of Attica; Casper of Tab; Forest of Wyandotte, Mich and Marion and Dowie of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. Elva Ballah of Veedersburg and Miss Gladys Cooper at home; two brothers, Hurley McAlister of Kingman and Lloyd McAlister of Mellott; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Five children preceded her in death. The body was removed from the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro to the family residence in Mellott Monday afternoon and funeral services were held from the Congregational Christian Church in Mellott at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Guy Walters of Mellott officiated. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown - kbz
