Fred Coombs, for the past 15 years a well-known resident of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth hospital Wednesday morning at 5:30 o'clock after several weeks of illness. He had been in failing health for several months, and had been a patient at the hospital for six weeks, suffering with a complication of diseases. Mr. Coombs was born in Crawfordsville June 2, 1863, and came to Lafayette in 1913, He was twice married, his second wife dying at the family home on North Sixth street a short time after they moved to this city. She was buried in Crawfordsville cemetery. For many years after her death Mr. Coombs made his home at the St. Nicholas hotel. He was jovial and courteous and made many friends here being deeply interested in current events particularly in sports. He was last employed at the Peter Lamb soft drink establishment on North Fifth Street. The body was taken to the Vianco funeral home where the funeral will be held sometime Friday. A sister, Mrs. John Snyder, is on her way here from Detroit, Michigan, and he also leaves two nieces and a nephew in Detroit. Burial will take place in Crawfordsville. --– thanks muches to Kim H
