New Ross - John Conover departed this life at his home, one half mile east of here Sunday morning. The deceased was an old settler of this county and for many years was a prosperous farmer. He was 74 years old and this was his first bad spell of sickness. He left one child and a host of friends to mourn the loss. Funeral services were conducted at Union Hill Church by Rev. E. R. Johnson. Interment was at the church cemetery. – thanks so much to “S” – one great typist

John Conover was born at Carlisle Station, O., Oct. 20, 1820, and came to Indiana in 1850, and was married to Virginia Berry, Feb. 16, 1864. After five years of married life, the death angel called her home. He again married Rachael J. Bratton, Feb. 15, 18_1, who has preceded him in death seven years to that better land. He leaves an only daughter, Hattie, and an only brother, Rev. Robert Conover, of Bloomington, Ill., to mourn his loss.

He has been a member of the Presbyterian Church for 55 years, having joined when only 18 years old. He has ever lived an upright, consistent life and fell asleep in Jesus, May 20, 1894, at the age of 73 years and seven months. He was laid to rest at Union Hill on Monday to await the resurrection morn. As it was, his only desire to live was for his only child, who is left sad and lonely without a father’s or mother’s care. – thanks so much to our great typist “S”
