Richard, the two year old child of Perry Coffman, died Monday afternoon of scarlet fever. This is the last of five children to be afflicted with that disease, and the second death in the family to result from it. The parents have the sympathy of the community and more especially because the neighbors were unable to render them the assistance they would like to have done, the nature of the disease making that impossible. -s

Probably the saddest occasion was back in 1900 when two children of Milton Wheeler and wife died of scarlet fever less than 24 hours apart and were buried in the same grave. The next spring there was an epidemic of scarlet fever here when 7 families suffered the dreaded disease. WP Coffman lost two children that spring – Amy, three years old died March 24, 1901; Richard two years old, died April 22, 1901.
