Darlington – Richard E. Cochran, 57, whose body was found July 5 in Eagle Lake, near Dryden, Canada where he had drowned May 29 during a fishing trip, was a native of Montgomery County. He attended New Richmond School and General Motors Transmission Engineering School. Mr. Cochran was production engineer for Detroit Diesel, Allison Division of General Motors for 23 years, retiring in 1975. He was married in 1940 to Margaret J. Caldwell, who survives. Mr. Cochran was a member of New Richmond United Methodist Church, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and Montgomery County Shrine Club. He also was a member of Ben Hur Floaters, and Masonic Lodge 186, Order of Eastern Star 297 and American Legion Post 302. He served as director of Montgomery County Shrine of Crawfordsville and of Greenlawn Cemetery. A veteran of WWII, he served in the 388th Quartermaster Division in the European Theater. Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Pack of Linden; Mrs. Hugh (Linda) Schoen of Darlington and Mrs. Alan (Sandra( Brown of West Lafayette; two sons, Richard “Mike” Cochran and Mark Cochran, both of Darlington; three sisters, Mrs. William (Marilyn) Snelling of Birmingham, Mich; Mrs. James (Mary) Sexton of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Hamilton of Lafayette and three brothers, Maurice H. Cochran of Charlestown; David W. Cochran of Crawfordsville and Dale I. Cochran of New Market. A memorial service will be held Sunday.

COCHRAN, Richard E. – Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Darlington. Services there 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Clayton Kendal officiating. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington. Those so desiring may contribute in memoriam to the Montgomery County Shrine Club. Also surviving are three grandchildren and one stepdaughter. His parents and one brother, Robert preceded him in death. - kz
