Waynetown – Mrs. Vereta Coats, 85, of Waynetown died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday in Lane House at Crawfordsville. She had been a patient there nine weeks. Mrs. Coats had resided at Waynetown 15 years after moving here from Fountain County. She was a member of the Scotts Prairie Christian Church and a graduate of Veedersburg High School. She was born on Feb 18, 1888 near Veedersburg, the daughter of George B. and Ella Booe Stockdale. She married Joseph W. Coats on Nov 16, 1910 at Veedersburg. He preceded her in death July 3, 1951. Surviving are four sons: Francis of Waynetown; William of Rt 1, Waynetown; George of North Salem and Eugene of Indianapolis; a step son, Charles Coats of Indianapolis; a step daughter Mrs. Harry (Elizabeth) Ray of Rochester; two brothers, Guy of Covington and Ray of Rochester; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed in the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. - kbz
