Coates - Sallie

Mrs. Sallie Coates, one of the oldest citizens of the county in point of years, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rachel Rich, of Darlington. Mrs. Coates was born April 4, 1804, and had been a resident of Darlington for over twenty years. Her husband in 1843 laid out the town of Coatsville, clearing the timber off himself from the town site. He died in Darlington in 1897 at an advanced age. Mrs. Coates’ funeral took place Saturday afternoon, the interment being at the Friends’ Cemetery. Mrs. Coates has been for many years a devoted member of the Friends’ Church. -s
