John R. COONS was born to W.S. and Jane VanCleave Coons 24 Oct 1863 and departed from this life, 17 Feb 1936. His age was 72 years, 3 months 17 days. He was a life-long resident of this county and being a carpenter of remarkable ability, was well known and a friend of many of this community. At the age of 24, he was united in marriage to Laura Belle Clark, 24 March 1888., To this union two sons were born, Elmer J. and Omer E. Besides the two sons, 7 grandchildren, Ernest, Eldon, Helen May, Mary Elizabeth, Harvey, Laura Belle and Cassius; two great grandchildren, John R. and Winifred Jo survive of the immediate family, his wife having preceded him in death 5 years ago. There are also surviving one brother, Henry, and 3 sisters, Mrs.Josephine McCormick, Mrs. Frances Stephens of this city and Mrs. Carolyn Jones of Eves, Miss and anumber of nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Mary, Katherine and Rhoda and one brother,George have preceded him in death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and in spite of his failing health showed many evidences of his faith in God. It is hard to realize that he has left us, but God knows best. For the past few weeks his health declined rapidly. The consolation of the bereaved ones is that he is now present with his Lord, where sickness and suffering are no more.
