His first marriage was to Nancy Thompson, who died April 16, 1858. To them were born three children, Albert, George, and Jennie. March 29, 1859, he was married to Mrs. N. C. Graham, who survives him. To them were born six children, three of whom are now living. He has held offices—county, township, and city—repeatedly, his last public service being that of Mayor of the city for two terms. During his residence in this city he has merited and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of a large circle of friends. He has been an acceptable member of the Christian Church for fifty years, during a long period of which time when in good health he was an active Christian worker encouraging others to a better life. During his early farm life, he met with an accident, resulting in white swelling from which he has been a sufferer for sixty years. About ten days ago, blood poison ensued from which he died Thursday morning at 12:40 o’clock, at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 25 days.  The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock from the residence on South Washing Street.
