HERMAN COONS

Herman Coons, 56, former resident of this city, died at his home in San Pedro, Cal., Monday morning just after an illness of a year. Mr. Coons, formerly an employee of the Crawfordsville Journal
has numerous friends and several relatives residing in this city. He left here about thirty years ago and for the past twenty years had been a linotype operator on the San Pedro, Cal., Commercial News.

The deceased was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and a member of the United Spanish War Veterans. He also was member of the Elks lodge and the typographical union.

Mr. Coons was born in February, 1875, the son of Harvey P. and Clay Coons. Both before and after the Spanish American war he was a pressman for the Journal. After leaving here he went to Minot, N.D., then to Monmouth, Ill., later going to California.  -- thanks to Phil C for this one :)

The survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Walter R. Cruse of this, city and Mrs. 'Frank Royer of Bellefontaine, Ohio; two brothers, H.T. Coons of Hammond and W.S. Coons of Louisville, Ky.; the widow and one daughter, Miss Evelyn Coons, of. Seattle, Wash. The funeral services will be held at the home in San Pedro, Cal., Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will take place there.
