ADVANCE WOMAN TAKES OWN LIFE DUE TO ILLNESS

MRS. ADDIE COONS, 70, SHOOTS SELF IN HEAD WITH PISTOL

Was Sister of Rev. Cornelius Airhart, of Near Here Died at Lebanon

Advance, March 30.-Despondent over continued ill health, Mrs. Addie Coons, 70, wife of Wallace W. Coons, fatally wounded herself with a revolver shot at her home here Friday morning. Mrs. Coons who was believed to have shot herself in the forehead at about 10 a.m., died two hours later at a Lebanon hospital.

Before taking her own life, Mrs. Coons wrote a note to members of her family directing them as to what funeral and final arrangements she desired.

Hearing a shot, Mrs. E. L. Walker, a neighbor, went to the back porch or the Coons home where she found Mrs. Coons lying unconscious. She called other neighbors who summoned a physician. She was then rushed to Lebanon to the hospital where her death occurred.

The suicide victim had lived [in] Jackson township, Boone county, all her life and for the past ten years she and her husband, a retired farmer, had lived in the south part of Advance. She was well and favorably known.

Mrs. Coons was born in this county in 1864, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Airhart. She was married to Wallace W. Coons many years ago. She was a member of the Baptist church.

The survivors include the husband; three sons, Otis, of near North Salem; Guy of Cincinnati, and John, at home; a daughter, Grace, who lives in California; two brothers, Rev. Cornelius Airhart, of near Crawfordsville, and Voris Airhart; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Ashley, of near Jamestown, and Mrs. Mack Whorley, of near Advance. Another daughter preceded her in death. The funeral arrangements have not been announced.
