Cooley - Eliza Kilgore

Source: Sunday Star, Crawfordsville, IN June 26, 1898 p 1

Mrs. Eliza Cooley died suddenly on Wednesday morning at her home on West Wabash Avenue from heart disease. Death came within a few moments after the attack. She had been in poor health for some time but in the last few weeks there had been some improvement in her condition. She was the wife of Paul Cooley and was a most excellent Christian woman, beloved by all who knew her. She left two children, Mrs. Fred Shigley of Indianapolis and Wilbur Cooley. Parke County was the place of her birth but for many years this has been the happy home of the little family. A life-long member of the Methodist Church, she was, when in good health, one of the active women in the church, and her every effort was for the betterman of humnanity. Indeed she was a woman who had great influence in the world and that influence was always extended for the good. Her funeral was on Friday and was conducted by Rev. Brumbaugh, pastor of the ME Church. - typed by kbz

Mrs. Eliza J. Cooley, the wife of Paul A. Cooley, died suddenly Wednesday morning about 8 o'clock at her home on west. Wabash avenue. She had been in feeble health for some months, but no apprehension of her immediate demise was entertained. On Wednesday she arose as usual and ate her breakfast. Shortly after her son Wilber left the house for his business she was taken with a fainting spell and was assisted by her husband to the bed where she lay down. Medical aid was hastily summoned but death came within a few minutes. The funeral will take place from the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services being conducted by Dr. Brumbaugh, of the First M. E. church, interment at the Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Cooley's maiden name was Kilgore and she was born in Parke county sixty-three years ago. Forty-two years ago she was married to Paul A. Cooley, who with two children, Wilber Cooley and Mrs. Fred Shipley, of Indianapolis, survive her. One child died some years ago. Mrs. Cooley was a very devoted member of the Methodist church, having united with that faith when a child. Her membership was much more than a nominal one for she was a most earnest worker in every department of church service, and was recognized as one of the most efficient members of the First Methodist church. Her life was an earnest and very useful one and in her death she has the highest regard of all who knew her. - transcribed by Kim H
