Darington (sic – Darlington) news – The funeral of Uncle George W. Cook was very largely attended Saturday last. Uncle George never turned a man hungry from his door or ever saw a person in distress but that he made an effort to relieve them. Peace to his ashes. – kbz

Darlington, April 7—George W. Cook died at his home in Sugar Creek Township yesterday evening at the advanced age of 85 years. He settled on the farm where he died at an early date, when all was a vast wilderness, but lived to see it become a most beautiful place. He died worth considerable property, esteemed and respected by all that knew him. His word was his bond. Ever ready to help those that helped themselves, being somewhat over anxious to help others, he has paid considerable money as surety but continued up to his last sickness to sign notes for those that needed help. Funeral at the house tomorrow at 1 o’clock, after which he will be laid to rest in the Rice Cemetery.
