Darlington – Louis M. “Joker” Conrad, 68, who owned the Shell Station and garage here the last 32 years died suddenly Friday morning at his home. He had been in declining health for some time. Born June 27, 1900 in Montgomery County he was a son of George and Mattie Gilliland Conrad. He was married to Dorothy Wright at Yuma, Ariz. She survives. They lived a year in Los Angeles and moved to Darlington where they resided since. Mr. Conrad was a member of Darlington Merchants and Associates. Surviving besides his wife are a granddaughter, Mrs. Ronald Martin of Crawfordsville and two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Payne of Colfax and Mrs. Arvel Emmert of Greenfield. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased and a daughter, Mrs. Betty Gilliatt died in 1966. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home in Darlington with Rev. Willard H. Eckroth officiating and burial in IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. – kbz
