Lionel O. Conkright, 54, of 310 Harrison St., died Friday in Home Hospital at Lafayette after an extended illness. Mr. Conkright was an employee of the Crawfordsville Street Department. Previously, he had been employed by the Montgomery County and Indiana State Highway departments. Mr. Conkright was a veteran of the Korean War. A Montgomery County native, he was born July 1, 1926, a son of Fred and Geneva Brown Conkright. He was married at Crawfordsville Sept. 14, 1954, to Betty Newkirk, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Susan Hutchison of Crawfordsville; a son, Randy of Crawfordsville; three brother, Clayton, Dawayne, and Teryl, all of Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mrs. Narvella Jones, Mrs. Jerry (Clova) Watt and Mrs. Larry (Cheryl) Cope, all of Crawfordsville; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Eugene, and a sister, Nancy. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Burkhart Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery near Wallace. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. --smc
