William A. Collings, 88, former president of the First National Bank & Trust Co., died Saturday morning at a rest home in Winter Park,. Fla. Funeral services were held Monday morning, with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Park at Winter Haven. W. A. Collings Mr. Collings retired as president of the local bank on Dec. 31, 1952, and moved to Florida a short time later with his wife the former Elizabeth Schalk. She died last year. While a resident of this city, Collings was active in many community activities. He was prominent in the Masonic Lodge and order of Eastern Star, a member of the Rotary Club, serving as president in 1902, and a member of the First Methodist Church. He was one of the few men to serve two terms as president of the Indiana State Bankers Association, guiding the organization in 1932 and 1938. Mr. Collings was born in Cicero, Ind., on July 16, 1874. He was graduated from DePauw University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, national honorary scholastic fraternity. He came to Crawfordsville as an attorney for the Evans, DeVore & Co., mortgage loan firm, but became associated with the First National Bank in September 1919. The institution later merged with the Crawfordsville Trust Co. and became the First National Bank & Trust Co. The only survivors are a brother, Harry Collings of Sarasota, Fla., and two sisters, Miss Nina Collings and Mrs. Clara B. Meek, both of Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Collings lived at the corner of Barr and Main streets in Crawfordsvlle for many years. - Kim H
