MARY SERVIES CONNER
Source: Waveland Independent, Jan 8, 1915
Mary J. Servies daughter of Anderson and Eliza Servies, was born in Kentucky Dec 28, 1829, died Jan 4, 1915 aged 85 Y 8D. Her parents moved to this state when she was a child. She was married to Paris M. Conner, the 20th of January 1853, who preceded her in death nearly 10 years ago. One son and a daughter, Willie and Mrs. Minnie Sharp came to bless this union. The deceased was bereft of her parents when quite young but was reared in the Christian home of Mr. and Mrs. James Heaton of Crawfordsville. She became a christian in her girlhood days and after her marriage went with her husband to the Baptist Church, but for more than the past 30 years they with their children have been consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Waveland. Mrs. Conner was the oldest of a family of 9 children, all of them going on before, one sister and one brother within the last year. She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Sharp with her husband and little Gladys and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of neighbors and friends. For more than 50 years Aunt Mary's home has been in Waveland and a remarkable home it has been in that it was unbroken for so long, the son having always lived with his mother until God called him home a little less than a year ago. The daughter with her husband and Gladys shared this home altogether and cared for her so tenderly during her declining days that her passing away was like unto a beautiful sunset without a cloud to mar its beauty. "She hath fought a good fight, and hath finished her course," and hath received her reward. "Come ye bless to my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Wm. Speer, assisted by Rev. L.S. Buckles of Lebanon. Interment at Maple Ridge.- kbz
