Crawfordsville – Memorial services for Pat Guilkey Cline, 67, an award-winning journalist will be at 2 p.m. July 27 in Woodland Heights Christian Church. Mrs. Cline had been civic affairs editor of the Journal Review from 1971 until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Cline was the paper’s first war correspondent going to the Vietnam war zone and making stops in seven other countries along the way. She co-founded Montgomery, Your County Magazine in 1976 sold it to the Journal Review in 1981 and had continued as its publisher and editor. Her journalism career began in 1967 when she joined the Tipton Tribune as a reporter. She then moved to city editor and managing editor before joining the Journal Review in 1971. Among her numerous writing awards in 1994, Freedom Communications Inc honored her with its most prestigious award, the Award of Excellence. In 1990, Gove. Evan Bayh made her a Sagamore of the Wabash and the Montgomery County Historical Society presented her with the Krout Wallace Award for literature and journalism in 1991. Survivors sons Michael, Jim Cline; sister Thelma Angler; stepsister Barbara Morehead; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Burkhart Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
