New Market, Dec 10 -- Pneumonia which her physician says was probably due to an injury of her side when a buggy turned over into a ditch resulted in the death of Mrs. Minnie Clifton aged 53; wife of John Clifton of near North Union this morning at four, Mrs. Clifton was with her husband and a young daughter in a buggy about 3 weeks ago coming to this city when they met an automobile in which were several basketball players of Crawfordsville going to Waveland. The horse which was hitched to the buggy shied when the auto approached and turned the occupants of the buggy into the ditch. Mrs. Clifton was bruised and injured as is thought internally on one side. The daughter's arm was broken and her father was bruised and cut about the head and face. All three were taken to a physician's office in Crawfordsville where their wounds were dressed after which they were brought to their home. It was thought at that time that Mrs. Clifton's injuries were not serious but the pain in her side never left her after she was hurt and her physician says in his opinion the attack of pneumonia was brought on because of it. Mrs. Clifton has been in ill health for about a year. Her fatal illness developed into a case of pneumonia last Thursday a week ago and since Saturday her death has been expected. Misfortune did not come singly at the Clifton home as two daughters are sick or disabled, one of them is suffering from a very serious attack of rheumatism and other still carries her broken arm in a sling as a result of the accident described above. Mrs. Clifton was the daughter of Christopher and Fannie Landis and her entire life has been spent in this county. She is survived by her husbnad; her mother, two sisters, Mrs. Otto Hiatt of near New Market and Mrs. Harney Servies of near Ladoga; also 10 children, Grandville, Delbert, Omer, Russell, Mary, Beatrice, Myrtle, Raymond, Beatty and Harlie. One child died in infancy. All of the children reside at home except two married sons, Delbert who resides near Ladoga and Russell of near Otterbein. Mrs. Clifton was a member of the Christian Church here and had been for several years. She was a good Christian woman and had many friends who will mourn. Her funeral will be conducted from the home on Saturday mroning at 10. - kbz
