Waveland -- Rufus R. Chesterson 79 died at 8:30 a.m Friday at his son's home in Waveland. He had lived at 1011 E. Elmore in Crawfordsville until June when he made his home here with his son, Frederick. He was born Sept 24, 1886, the son of John Nelson and Mary Ellen Broach Chesterson. He was born in Montgomery County southeast of Crawfordsville in the Shady Nook neighborhood. He married Ethel May Howell who preceded him in death in May 1934. They started housekeeping west of Crawfordsville and lived there all of their lives. Mr. Chesterson attended Montgomery County schools and was known throughout the county as a grain thresher. He farmed and also worked for the railroad before starting in the carpentry business 35 years ago. He was a member of the EUB church, Waynetown Masonic Lodge where he was a 50-year member and past master, Eastern Star, lifetime honorary member of Montgomery Lodge No 50, member of Crawfordsville chapter and council of the Father's Auxiliary of VFW. Survivors include the son with whom he mad ehis home and another son, James R of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Robinson of Indianapolis, a sister Mrs. William Hinkle of near Mace and 10 grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald, four brothers and one sister. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home, Rev. John R. Servies will officiate. Burial will be in Wesley Cemetery Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Sunday. - kbz
