Rex Chaney, 60, 108 W. Franklin St., 40-year resident of Crawfordsville, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday in Culver Hospital. He had become ill last Friday and entered the hospital at that time. He was an employe of the Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. and had worked there for 35 years. Mr. Cheney was a past worthy president of the Crawfordsville Eagle Lodge and a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. He was also a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity at Wabash College where he had graduated in 1928. During his four years at the school, he had played varsity football. He was also a member of the Father's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Crawfordsville and the Ben Hur Life Association. He was a member of the Evansville Methodist Church. Born Sept. 16, 1904, in Alma, Mich., Mr. Cheney was the son of Marion and Jessie March Cheney. He graduated from Evansville Central High School where he was a star football player. On Dec. 18, 1927, he married Faye Green in Crawfordsville. Survivors include the widow at home; a son, Donald E. Cheney of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Byron C. Harvey of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. R. A. Swonder of Evansville; the step-father, E. S. Klaser of Evansville, and two grandchildren, Cheryl Lynn and Michel Denise Harvey. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Shotts will officiate. Burial will be in the Crawfordsville Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday.
