Donald Lee Carr, 24 years old and a native of Veedersburg was found fatally injured with a gunshot wound in the left side of the chest in the basement of his rooming house at 405 Covington Street, Crawfordsville, last Saturday. He died at 9:40 a.m. in Culver Hospital Monday as a result of the wound although it in itself would not have cause death directly, surgeons said. The loss of blood and other effects of the injury were believed to have caused the fatal ending. The injury was caused by the discharge of 410 gauge shotgun which it was thought may have taken place in young Carr’s room. Dr. Fred Blix, the Montgomery County coroner investigated but had not filed a verdict on Wednesday. Friends of young Carr thought he may have been cleaning the gun when it was fired. No suicide notes were found. Donald Carr was born in Veedersburg on Aug 14, 1928 the son of Troy and the late Mattie Groves Carr. His mother died of burns last December after her clothing ignited from the stove in their home south of Sterling. Donald recently had been working at the Hydrauling Pressed Brick Company in Crawfordsville and lived at the Ellery Cronkhite home. He was found almost unconscious from the wound when his groans were held and his only words were, “Help me.” Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Guy Walters at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fishero Funeral Home with burial in Rockfield cemetery. Survivors besides the father are 7 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Calvert of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Patricia Turpin, Judy, Lucy, Alice, Hazel and Helen Carr at home and four brothers, Marx and Eugene of Crawfordsville and Leon and David at home. – kbz
