The body was taken to the Bright Funeral Home in Crawfordsville after first being removed to the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg.
Veedersburg - Carl E. Campbell, Jr. 32 of Tower Hill, Ill, a native of Crawfordsville was found dead in his car shortly before midnight Monday night on US 136 approximately 200 yards east of the Sunny Inn service station and cafe near Sterling.
State Trooper Don Woods found the body about 11 p.m. after being told that Campbell had been seen asleep in his car near the service station and cafe earlier in the day. Campbell was seen asleep in his car about 7 a.m. by Mrs. Doris Grady and Mrs. Irene Teegarden, waitresses at the cafe as they were going off duty. They said he drove east on US 136 after they had gone to the car and awakened him.
Charles Fishero, Fountain County Coroner, said death was caused by a self-inflicted bullet wound from a 22-caliber rifle. An investigation revealed Campbell had shot himself in the mouth. An automatic revolver also was found in the car.
State Trooper James Frazier and night Policeman Eddie Smith of Covington also took part in the investigation. Coroner Fishero said he was unable to determine the motive for Campbell's death.
Born Aug 4, 1923, Campbell was the son of Carl E. and Wilda Budd Campbell. He married Lola Dean Wilson Nov 24 1943.
Surviving are the widow; two small daughters, a brother, Donald Campbell of Phoenix, arix and three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Douglas and Mrs. John Vaught, both of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Mae Murray of Tower Hill, Ill. The widow and children live with Mrs. Campbell's grandmother, Mrs. John Douglas, 1810 E. ELmore St in Crawfordsville.

Campbell a WWII veteran with six years' service in the Army had been employed at the Link Belt Company in Indianapolis. Previously he was employed athe California Pellett Mill and Steel Industries in Crawfordsville. He also is survived by a grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Budd of Crawfordsville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bright Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, followed by burial at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Rev. JD Grubbs will be the officiating minister.
