Gary L. Caldwell, 66, Crawfordsville, died 3:31 a.m. Friday in St. Clare Medical Center. Mr. Caldwell was a Navy veteran. He owned Main St. Cafe & Catering for 10 years. After retiring he cooked for St. Bernard's School, worked in the Art Department at RR Donnelley for 10 years and worked in the Veteran's Home in Lafayette. His memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a trustee.
He was born Jan 17, 1938 at Crawfordsville to Harvey and Helen Borders Caldwell. He graduated from Colle Park HS, Atlanta, Georgia in 1956. He attended the University of Georgia, Purdue University and Butler University. On Dec 17, 1966 he married Marcia E. Melvin at Crawfordsville. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dirk (Cathy) Caldwell, Jamestown; three daughters, Rachel (Todd) Davis; Yvonne (Bill) Melvin; KJerith (Brian) Bourff, all of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Brad Caldwell, Crawfordsville; Bruce Borders, Woodstock, Georgia; a sister Amy Fishback, Lafayette and 14 grandchildren. His parents are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Crawfordsvillle with Dr. Philip Collier officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown. Friends may visit 4-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
