Jesse Caster, 94, of Rt. 1, Crawfordsville, a well-known agri-businessman who was active in Republican politics in Montgomery County for several years, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday in Huland House Nursing Home. Mr. Caster was president of the Montgomery County Fair Board, was a county commissioner for 12 years, served on the Montgomery County Tax Board, was a charter member and 40-year director of the Montgomery County Sales Pavilion, founder of the Shannondale Telephone Co. and was host to the 1963 National Farm Progress Show. He farmed all his life east of Crawfordsville. Mr. Caster was educated in Kingsley Chapel. He was born on a farm his grandfather land-granted in 1816 east of here on May 31, 1884, a son of Abraham and Emma Shaver Caster. He was married to Ione Tribbett on Sept. 7, 1911. She died May 23. Surviving are a son, Abraham of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Carolyn Spurgeon of Columbus, Mrs. Raymond (Martha Jean) Hoaglin of Charleston, W. Va., and Mrs. James (Elizabeth) McCarthy of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mellie Saidla of Crawfordsville; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ursula Ward, and a half-brother, Fred Caster. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Little officiating. Burial will be in Shannondale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that memorials be made in the form of donations to a favorite charity. - kbz
