March 18, 1943-Jan. 26, 2011. Jon Carlson of Millersburg, Mich., and formerly of Crawfordsville, died Jan. 26 in his home. He was 67. A private family service was conducted in his residence. He was born March 18, 19443, at Sault St. Marie. Mich., to John G. Carlson. He graduated in 1961from Everett High School at Lansing, Mich. He enlisted in the Marines, 1st Marine Division Infantry and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He supervised at General Motors in Lansing Mich., prior to owning and operating a logging business with his father in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He retired in 2005 from Sommer Metalcraft at Crawfordsville. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431, where he served as a past vice commander of Montgomery County. Survivors include his wife, Sue Beth (Scott) Carlson; daughters, Georgina (Matt) Horn of Lake Waveland and Leslie (Tom) Davis of Marshall; sons, Jon (May) Carlson of Seoul, Korea and Rhett Carlson of Crawfordsville; his aunts, Maurine Carlson of Greenville, Mich., and Dee Carlson of Lansing, Mich., who helped raise him; step-daughters, Tessa (Butler) Carlson of Crawfordsville and Robin (Butler) Huesca of Lafayette; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Sam Dickerson are deceased as is his father John Carlson, brother Victor (Trick) Carlson, grandson Trent and uncles Worth and Wick Carlson. His body was donated to science and later cremated. A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the VFW at Crawfordsville. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service.
