VEEDERSBURG – Mrs. Fern L. Carithers, 56, of 804 W. State St., Veedersburg, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Union Hospital at Terre Haute. She had been in failing health six months and was hospitalized four weeks. Mrs. Carithers was a charter member of the Church of God here. She taught Sunday School for a number of years and was president of the Ladies Auxiliary and Young People’s Endeavor of the church. She was a life-long resident of Fountain County and had been employed by Marshall Studios here the past 10 years. Born May 26, 1917, at Stone Bluff, she was the daughter of Archie and Goldie Drollinger Minick. She was married Nov. 19, 1948, to David W. Carithers. Surviving are a foster son, Gary W. Richey of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. James (Audrey) Lowery and Mrs. Marion (Ethel) Overpeck, both of Veedersburg; four brothers, Walter Minick of Fairmount, Ill., Angus Minick of Rt. 3, Veedersburg, Dewey Minick of Monticello and Simon Minick of Wingate; and a foster grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband and father. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of God here with the Rev. Robert Easton and Mrs. Russell Allison officiating. Burial will be in Osborne Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fishero-Dickerson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the church prior to services. – jlr
