We have had inquiries as to the authorship of Xmas 80 years age, in the last issue. The following explanatory paragraph was accidently omitted: There died in Gary, August 28 a man who was born in Parke County, within hearing of Waveland bells March 17, 1849. After 9 years his parents moved to Iowa. When he was 17 in 1865, he ran a way from home and joined the Union Army. But his services were brief as 6 days after he reached the front, Lee surrendered. After attending Wabash college he joined a gold rush to Colorado in 1875 and while there served as an army scout in the Indian troubles. He came to Chicago in 1890 and engaged in newspaper work. In 1906 he went to Gary and spent the most active years of his life on the Gary Post and later, The Post-Tribune. He was a force in all the activities of the growing city, and his death at the age of 87 was greatly regretted. In all the years of his busy life he had not his birthplace, and wrote the following bit on Christmas 1935, for a copy of which we are indebted to Mrs. Paul Moody.
