Mrs. Sarah S. Canine died at her home in W. Main St. on Sunday. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon by Rev CG Airhart of Roachdale. Interment in Union Cemetery. Sarah S. Procter (Canine) was born March 5, 1829 and died March 29, 1908 aged 79 years and 24 days. She was married to James R. Canine Dec 13, 1853 in the city of Crawfordsville by Elder MM Vancleave. To them 5 children were born, three girls and two boys. Rillah F. was b. April 26, 1856 died Jan 5, 1863; Huldah A. b. Oct 9, 1866; d,. Feb 8, 1870; Lizzie b. July 4, 1869 d. Dec 20, 1871; J. Harvey and Jesse W. the boys survive. She united with The Regular Predestinarian Baptist Church at Indian Creek near New Market, May 1878 and was immersed the following day by Elder Jonathan VanCleave. His life was consistent with her profession of Christ's righteousness. She ever did to others as she would have others do to her. That day never came when Aunt Sallie (as everyone called her) would not make the sacrifice necessary to meet the wants of all whose sufferings and needs appealed to her. She would give to the last of all in her power. Her home was always the home of her brethren and friends, and she met all with a smile, and the love of her big heart shone like a beacon light to all who came within the radius of this good Christian mother. Her cheerful disposition under severest trials scattered sunshine all about her. Her affliction, which lasted for years was borne by Christian patience and the evening, and close of a long life has come laden with the sweet perfume of the flowers of promise. Rest for weary hands, aching and anxious heart is found at the beautiful river of peace. 12 years ago she was left a widow by the death of the husband since which time she and Harvey have lived together in Waveland. She leaves one half sister, Mrs. Lucinda Hicks, near 93, two sons, one grandchild, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Canine of Crawfordsville, on who she lavished her full love, besides many relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
