Waveland April 10 -- Mrs. Sarah Foster CANINE died at her country home about a mile and a half north of here this morning at 11. She was born 83 years ago and was one of the oldest residents of this vicinity. Mrs. Canine had been suffering from heart disease for some time and during the last three weeks her condition has been so bad that her death has been expected. The deceased was born south of Browns Valley in 1834 and was the daughter of Robert and Susan Foster but she has lived on the farm on which she died since her marriage to Jack Canine in 1855. Mr Canine has been dead for about 5 years. Mrs. Canine has always been one of the most highly respected women in this vicinity and was one of the most devoted members of the Baptist Church. She was a constant worker for the good of her church until she became confined to her home through illness. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John Oldshue with whom Aunt Sarah made her home during the last few years. There are also 3 brothers surviving: Thomas of Waveland; Henry of Catlin, Ill; Robert of California. Two sons who were born to Mr. and Mrs. Canine are both dead. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 11 at the Old Union Church and the services will be in charge of Rev. JH Oliphant of Crawfordsville and Rev. JA Johnson of Danville. The burial will be in Old Union Church yard.

Sarah Jane Canine, daughter of Robert and Susan Foster, was born in Montgomery County near Browns Valley Feb 18, 1834. She was married March 23, 1854 to J.J. Canine who departed from this life June 12, 1911. To this union were born 3 children, one son dying in infancy. One son, Samuel R, died August 1, 1878 at the age of 19. One daughter, Mary W. Oldshue with whom she was living at the time of her death, April 10, 1916 at the age of 82 years 1 month and 23 days. Besides the daughter who survives her, are two grandchildren and three brothers, Henry A of Catlin, Ill; James T. of Waveland, ind; and Robert C. of Imperial, California. She united with the Baptist Church called Union Feb 23, 1867 and the following May 26 with 10 others, was baptized by Elder Jesse Gobin at the Deere & Canine Mill. She remained a devoted member of this church until her death, never missing a meeting when she was able to attend and never allowing worldly affairs to hinder her from her duty to serve her Savior. She was kind and courteous, always ready to visit the sick and poor. Besides her own family, she was mother or grandmother to quite a number of others, among whom were William McLaughlin, who came to her home at age 8 and remained until he was of age and Susan A. Swisher, who remained in her home 27 years. Henry Lamb, of Tuscon, AZ was in her home 7 years. Funeral services on Wednesday at Union Church were conducted by Elders Harvey Oliphant of Crawfordsville, JE Johnson of Danville, Ill; JJ Whitlock of Terre Haute and CL Airhart of Greencastle. Those attending from a distance were; Mrs. Wm.
