Nannie Cecelia CANINE, 87, died of a heart attack Wednesday night Jan 29 in Terre Haute. She was the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth Conacher LUCAS and was born on the ancestral farm in Clay Co 5 miles west of Brazil. In November 1894, she was married to Edwin N. CANINE of Waveland. He died 10 years ago. Mrs. Canine served on the Lake Co. Board of Children’s Guardians six years. She was worthy matron for Order of Eastern Star in 1916. Later she served as Grand Esther and Grand Ruth in the Grand Chapter of Indiana. An active Congregational Church worker she served 8 years as state president of the Women’s Foreign Missionary Work. She was a past president of the Indiana Federation of Clubs which she had previously served as first vice president and a director. The only survivors in Montgomery County are a nephew, AC Deere, Waveland and niece, Mrs. JE Rice of Waynetown. Funeral services were at Terre Haute Saturday afternoon followed by burial in Old Union Cemetery, a mile north of Waveland. Mr. and Mrs. Deere attended the funeral.
