Waveland, Sept 11 - Mrs. Martha E. Canine, 85, who lived here for 32 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Luster Manwaring at West Union at 3 o'clock Wed. afternoon. She had been in failing health and death was due to complications. Mrs. Canine was born May 9, 1861 in Montgomery county and was the daughter of Peter and Anna James. She was married to William Canine in November 1879. The deceased was a member of the Clinton Baptist Church before moving here. After the closing of the Waveland Baptist Church, Mrs. Canine became active in the Christian Church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors. Surviving are 4 daughters: Mrs. William Kline of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Rice of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Robert Davidson of Greensburg, and Mrs. Manwaring and four sons: Victor Canine of Cleveland, Ohio; Edgar Canine of Waveland; Reid Canine of Pamons, California and Stanley Canine of Bay St. Louis, Miss. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock at the Machledt Mortuary at Waveland with Rev. HH Elmore in charge. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4 Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery. - kz

Mrs. Martha CANINE, a native of the Waveland community, daughter of Peter and Anna JAMES, was born May 9, 1861 and was married to Mr. Canine in the fall of 1879. To this union 8 children were born: Mrs. William KLINE of Chicago; Mrs. Fred RICE of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Robert DAVIDSON of Greensburg; Mrs. Luther MANWARING of West Union; Victor of Cleveland, Ohio; Edgar of Waveland; Reid of Palmona, California and Stanley of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The Canines followed the milling business throughout their active lives and lived in different states of the union, returning to Waveland upon retirement and established their home on E. Howard St, where Mrs. Canine resided until a few months ago, when she sold her property and made her home with her daughters. Mr. Canine having died several years ago. Mrs. Canine was a member of the Baptist Church and lived an exemplary, cheerful Christian life all her days. The funeral was conducted at the Machledt Funeral Home by the Rev. HH Elmore. Mrs. Elizabeth Peck accompanied by Mr. NR Walker rendered several beautiful and appropriate selections on her violin. Burial was made in the Old Union Cemetery. - kbz
